Waldorf Microwave XTkPicture (c) Waldorf The last of its kind, it seems... the last Wavetable synthesizer built by Waldorf. The Microwave II/XT/XTk are DSP-based wavetable synthesizers. While this gives them a broader range of possibilities, the different technology leads to different sonic results. Where the original PPG Wave synthesizers and the earlier Microwave I and Wave synthesizers used discrete logic and ASICs to run at sampling rates in the 200kHz range, the DSP-based Microwaves create their samples at approx. 40 kHz, which leads to totally different aliasing results. Plus, of course, the digital filters sound different to the analog ones in the older synths.
